DMC Names Karen Carbone Chief Medical Officer of Adult Central Campus Hospitals

Dr. Karen Carbone has been named the chief medical officer of Detroit Medical Center’s adult central campus hospitals.

Carbone brings more than 25 years of experience. She served in leadership roles with Beaumont Health, Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, and at Rice University in Houston. Most recently, she served as an advisor to the CEO with the Dubai Health Authority in Dubai.

“Dr. Carbone brings a wealth of experience and expertise with her to the DMC. She will be a tremendous asset to our health system and the community,” says Karima Bentounsi, CEO of DMC adult central campus hospitals, which include Detroit Receiving Hospital, DMC Harper University Hospital, DMC Heart Hospital, and DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital.

Carbone is board certified in anesthesiology with fellowship training in cardiac anesthesiology. She received her training from Northwestern University and the University of Michigan.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree at Amherst College in Massachusetts, she completed her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.

The DMC operates eight hospitals and institutes.
