DETROIT — At 5:16 a.m. on September 26, witnesses reported seeing a bizarre, 30-foot-tall metal pigeon land in Roosevelt Park, just outside Newlab Detroit and Michigan Central. At this time, the pigeon is not believed to be a real bird. As one brave witness approached, a short, robot-like figure, roughly the size of a gumball machine, reportedly “shuffled” out of the craft.
Witnesses described the figure as a “glowy marshmallow guy,” “TV-faced” and having a “cat-bowl head.” This robot reportedly introduced himself as “GoodGood.”
When asked about GoodGood, one witness said, “That little robot dude? Man, he was the best. We had a sort of chill dance party. And you know what? I needed that.” According to the witness, she and GoodGood danced outside Michigan Central for roughly five minutes before she said goodbye and left for work.
For the next hour, GoodGood’s whereabouts were unknown, until he was seen inside Newlab Detroit, home to a community of critical technology startups, including several companies building robots, which GoodGood attempted to befriend. When asked, one Newlab Detroit member said: “You said there was a robot here this morning? Well, yeah, there are always robots here….”
Eventually, GoodGood stumbled across an open studio door where a logo read “Yes, Everything S’Possible,” which, it turns out, belongs to the evidently mis-abbreviated YES! Inc. In the studio, colorful waves cascaded across the windows, with motors and actuators lining the shelves.
GoodGood lingered in the studio, where our crew eventually found him glistening in the warm studio lights. In a tender voice, he spoke with us, and we are happy to report that we’ve made a new friend. He told us about his family, who he claims had been traveling through space for some time when they discovered Earth. GoodGood explained that his dad, Roland, a devoted scientist, wanted to study life on the planet while his mom, DeeDee, charted the stars.
However, during his parents’ research, GoodGood said he grew bored and wanted to make new friends. It seems that while many of us sought out the stars, GoodGood sought out connection, searching not for the next wonder, but for the next conversation, the next game, the next friend to help make the world feel more whole.
Later in the day, YES! Inc. founder Mick Harrison Brege entered the studio, excited to see that GoodGood had arrived safely. When asked about his relationship to GoodGood, Brege explained, “We’ve been helping out GoodGood since he started pen-palling with Earth. We’re all just happy to bring him here so he can start meeting new people face-to-face and having fun together.”
For now, GoodGood plans to explore the world and, in his words, “meet new pals.” To keep up with the adventure, visit yes.land.
