Minority Males for Higher Education is a nonprofit organization in Farmington Hills that offers mentoring and resources to young black men. The mentorship program matches students with adult role models who help support their college and career aspirations. The organization’s Barbershop Chats provide youth with free haircuts and a safe space to discuss personal issues. In addition, MMHE offers grants and scholarships to students who demonstrate high academic performance, civic engagement, and financial need. Scholarships are awarded to students in the Detroit Public Schools Community District and Durham Public Schools and Thomasville High School in North Carolina. The organization also provides emergency support to its former students who are in urgent need of assistance. MMHE relies on the time, talent, and resources of volunteers to engage the next generation of civic leaders. Since it was founded in 2012, MMHE has served more than 5,000 students from 15 schools across five states.
