McLaren Oakland, with offices in Pontiac and Clarkston, today announced it has launched its first dedicated cardiology physician practice. The new offering will include personnel who are trained in treating various cardiology conditions and diseases.

“As part of McLaren Health Care, McLaren Oakland is committed to enhancing the level of cardiology care provided to the northern Oakland County community,” says Chad Grant, president and CEO of McLaren Oakland. “This is the first step in a comprehensive expansion of our cardiovascular service line, adding the highly skilled and experienced physicians of the McLaren Cardiovascular Institute.”

Grant says McLaren Cardiovascular Institute physicians will consult on, and care for, patients arriving at McLaren Oakland’s emergency department in Pontiac and Clarkston. He says cardiology care is a key component of McLaren Oakland’s emergency capabilities as the hospital is an accredited chest pain center.

Grant says prior to the addition of a physician group, McLaren Oakland offered services including cardiac stress testing, cardiac rehabilitation, and vascular services. McLaren Oakland will continue to offer the services, along with new procedures to treat chronic total occlusion, pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thrombosis, and chronic heart failure.

He says nearly 10 physicians have joined the practice, with additional physicians scheduled to join McLaren Cardiovascular Institute in September.

The McLaren Cardiovascular Institute practices out of the outpatient clinic at McLaren Oakland, located at 50 North Perry St. in Pontiac, and McLaren Clarkston, located at 6507 Town Center Dr. in Clarkston. Grant says the institute will be expanding to additional locations in late 2016.

McLaren Oakland is a nearly 330-bed medical center offering emergency and trauma care, cardiology, cancer services, minimally invasive robotic surgery, and orthopedic services. Earlier this year, McLaren opened a new, larger emergency center on the campus of the McLaren Health Care Village in Clarkston.
