Kuehne and Nagel Group Inc., a logistics company based in Switzerland, has launched an office in Detroit that is home to the first Kuehne and Nagel Inc. Operational Care Center and Career Development Program.
Housing 100 employees and located at 150 W. Jefferson Ave., the office offers a two-year career development path that is a deep dive into the field of international logistics. High school and college graduates who complete the program become eligible to work in one of 1,300 Kuehne and Nagel offices worldwide.
“Education is in Michigan’s DNA,” says Adam Hollier, Michigan state senator (D-Detroit). “We applaud Kuehne and Nagel for launching their training program in Detroit and for recognizing the fact that we have an impressive pool of talented young people waiting for great opportunities like this one.”
The Operational Care Center is designed to streamline the number of touch points required to import goods from other countries to the U.S.’s 47 branch offices.
“With an eye toward the future, we are investing in the next generation of logistics professionals,” says Marcus Reimann, senior vice president of seafreight for North America at Kuehne and Nagel. “Our program teaches participants how to be among a team of the top logistics pros in the world, delivering the best results across the industry. Detroit is undergoing a major revival and has a large and skilled young population, making it the obvious location to attract and develop tomorrow’s leaders in logistics.”
Kuehne and Nagel Group has more than 82,000 employees at more than 1,300 locations in more than 100 countries. Its market position includes seafreight, airfreight, contract logistics, and overland business.
