Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is establishing a new Rivian Service Support Operations facility in Plymouth Township, which is expected to create 100 high-wage jobs.
The facility represents a $4.6 million investment from Rivian, with support of the Michigan Economic Development Corp.’s Michigan Strategic Fund.
“This investment by Rivian will create 100 high-skill jobs as we work to grow Michigan’s economy, create good-paying jobs, and build the industries of the future,” says Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “This state-of-the-art facility reinforces our reputation as a leader in both customer service and the future of mobility and electrification.”
Rivian is experiencing growth and plans to support all Rivian owners out of the new Service Support Operations Center. The highly technical service support operations center will provide around-the-clock assistance by the Rivian Roadside and Service Support team to North American Rivian owners with vehicle questions, roadside requests, and service scheduling needs either by phone or digitally.
As a result of the total capital investment and job creation, the company has been awarded a $750,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen for the project over competing sites in other states.
“Congratulations to the team at Rivian on your tremendous growth and success,” says Quentin Messer Jr., CEO of the MEDC and president and chair of the Michigan Strategic Fund. “We appreciate this continued vote of confidence in our incredible talent and competitive business climate here in Michigan. We’re pleased to work with our local partners to support Rivian’s investment that reinforces Michigan’s position as the leader in electric vehicle manufacturing and customer adoption.”
Tracy Stevens, senior manager of Rivian Roadside and service support operations, says, “This center provides a base of service to our Rivian owners. This team will be the most all-around knowledgeable and most highly trained group on Rivian vehicles. The program includes six weeks of in-depth training for our service support advisors, and we will add about 15 new hires every other month throughout 2022 to ensure coverage as production ramps up. Our expansion in Plymouth is part of a long-term strategy that will allow access to the talented workforce Michigan offers.”
Plymouth Charter Township has offered to assist the company with finding candidates for the newly created positions. For more information on careers at Rivian, visit here.
