Detroit is a place where the resilience of small business owners help shape and strengthen the backbone of the community. GoDaddy was inspired by the entrepreneurs driving the evolution and recovery in Detroit, so it created Icons of Detroit – a 10-part series, hosted by local entrepreneur Nneka Julia, that highlights the small businesses helping to power the city and come out of the pandemic even stronger than before.
“The city of Detroit is a symbol of strength and resilience,” said Adam Palmer, Director of Creative Production Operations at GoDaddy. “Icons of Detroit introduces a new wave of community-focused entrepreneurs who are embracing their role, not only as small business owners but also as driving forces in their city – lifting up Detroit socially and economically during a critical time in the city’s recovery.”
Some local small businesses featured in the series include Brittni “Bee” Brown from The Bee Agency, a millennial woman making her mark on Detroit entrepreneurs by helping them tell their stories through her PR business, Yelitsa Jean-Charles, CEO and Founder of Healthy Roots Dolls, a toy company that teaches natural hair care to young girls of color with beautiful Black dolls, and Charlie Lorenzi, owner of Detroit Guitar, who journeyed to success in the competitive music industry.
“Because small businesses are created by those and for those within the community, entrepreneurship is key to fostering growth for any city and neighborhood to thrive,” added Icons of Detroit host and local entrepreneur Nneka Julia.
