Detroit’s Bayview Yacht Club announced Matthew Prost will be the new general manager and COO. The announcement comes as the club finishes up a nearly total renovation of its clubhouse on the Detroit River.

Prost will manage all aspects of BYC’s operations, including completion of the clubhouse renovation project, budgeting, and staffing. He will also direct the work of department managers and implement policies established by the club’s board.

He will also be key to the ongoing development and implementation of the club’s strategic plan, which includes marketing and member relations programs. Prost will be part of the administration of the club’s annual regattas, including its signature event, the Bayview Mackinac Race.

“(Prost) will help us remain one of the premier sailing clubs in the United States,” says Chuck Stormes, 2021 commodore for the Club. “Matt adds a depth of experience we have never had at the club. His background with hospitality and continuous improvement programs will enable us to deliver an elevated level of member satisfaction and support our plans to expand membership and grow the sport of sailing.”

Prost was most recently a regional manager for restaurants at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

He was in charge of nine dining operations, overseeing the startup of the establishments and implementation of financial systems, marketing, staff development, product, event, and operational processes. He also supervised special events and recently implemented post-COVID-19 reopening plans.

Before Little Caesars, he was general manager at Social Kitchen & Bar in Birmingham and director of restaurants at Royal Park Hotel in Rochester. He was a manager of bar operations at Walt Disney World’s Swan and Dolphin Resort in Florida, where he helped create a property-wide beverage program.

Prost earned a Master of Business Administration in accounting and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.

BYC was founded in 1915.
