Mallory Field, Kevin Macaddino, Katie Roskam, Sam Vitale, and Sarah Wixson have been elected partners of Varnum, a Grand Rapids-based law firm with other Michigan locations.
“Our slate of new partners this year reflects the firm’s growing presence in the
southeast Michigan region,” says Ron DeWaard, chair of Varnum. “Each of these attorneys is an exceptional practitioner, and we are pleased to welcome them to the partnership.”
The partners have a variety of professional backgrounds and experience.
“This new partner class represents five key practice areas of the firm that are poised for growth and, for the laterals, is a reflection of how quickly attorneys integrate here,” says Scott Hill, executive partner.
Mallory Field joined the firm in 2015 as an associate, and now works as a corporate and financial services attorney in the Novi office. She came from a small business firm after clerking with the United States Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. Field’s practice focuses on startup companies, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, private offerings, and other commercial transactions. She is a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Law and she received her undergraduate degree from Albion College.
Kevin Macaddino joined Varnum as counsel in 2017. Before joining the firm, he formed and managed a boutique firm that specialized in commercial real estate. His practice at Varnum includes commercial real estate with specialties in medical office buildings, apartments, industrial facilities, and shopping centers. Macaddino helps his clients with land acquisition, entitlements, leasing, finance, construction, and disposition. He also assists his clients with entity formation and governance. He earned his undergraduate degree from MSU and his law degree from Wayne State University.
Katie Roskam is based in the Grand Rapids office, where she is a tax attorney. She joined the firm in 2013 as an associate. Roskam uses her tax knowledge to work with clients in any area where tax is concerned, include real estate, estate planning, qualified opportunity zones, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, employee benefits, and health care. She graduated from Loyola University School of Law and attended Hope College for her undergraduate degree. She has a Master of Laws degree in taxation from Northwestern University School of Law.
Sam Vitale is a litigation and family law attorney based in the Novi office. He joined the firm in 2016 as an associate after practicing for several years at a Southfield-based business firm. In commercial litigation-focused practice, Vitale represents both individual and entities in a variety of matters, including construction litigation, shareholder oppression claims, breach of contract actions, and property disputes. He is also a family law attorney who assists with custody issues, parenting time issues, and property matters. Vitale is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School and received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University.
Sarah Wixson practices in the Ann Arbor office, where she a business and health care attorney. She was an associate when joining the firm in 2018. Wixson works with businesses, physicians, physician groups, and other health care entities. She also handles shareholder and corporate disputes, complex commercial litigation, and real estate matters. She received her law degree from Wayne State University Law School and her undergraduate degree from Hope College.
Varnum has more than 180 attorneys in eight offices.
