Longtime civic and government leader Stephanie Washington has joined the Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) as an independent contractor in the role of senior advisor.

Washington brings more than 14 years of senior leadership experience in Detroit city government and politics. She most recently served as finance director for Duggan for Governor, following more than 12 years with the city of Detroit. Her leadership roles included chief of staff to Mayor Mike Duggan, director of government affairs, legislative liaison to Detroit City Council, and director of scheduling and advance.

As chief of staff, Washington helped guide the administration’s priorities and operations while strengthening relationships across government, business and community sectors. Throughout her career, she has built extensive experience in government affairs, coalition-building and major development initiatives.

“Stephanie is a highly respected leader who understands Detroit, its institutions and the relationships required to move transformational work forward,” says Eric B. Larson, CEO of the Downtown Detroit Partnership. “Her experience navigating complex civic priorities and bringing diverse partners together will be an important asset as DDP strengthens its government and community relationships and advances greater alignment across Downtown and the surrounding districts.”

In her new role, Washington will advise DDP on civic and government relations and support several near-term strategic priorities. Her work will include funder cultivation and strengthening collaboration with neighborhood and community organizations throughout the city, all advancing DDP’s broader efforts to foster greater downtown alignment among public, private, philanthropic and community partners.

Washington’s appointment supports DDP’s continued role as a convener and steward of downtown Detroit. The organization works across sectors to develop shared strategies, build strong partnerships and advance initiatives that contribute to a vibrant, resilient and inclusive urban core.
