LIVONIA — Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit on Saturday will open a nearly 18,500 square-foot new construction retail space in Livonia, bringing 25 jobs to the nonprofit’s largest metro Detroit store.

“Our new Livonia store will continue to support Goodwill’s mission: creating jobs,” says  Lorna G. Utley, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries. “With each purchase, shoppers are helping to put a friend or neighbor back to work.”

Utley says proceeds from the store will fund Detroit-area Goodwill job training, education, and placement programs that help the region’s jobless overcome employment challenges and earn jobs. The store also will create training opportunities allowing participants in Goodwill programs to gain real-world experience as they work to earn permanent positions at the store, or with one of Goodwill’s more than 700 partner employers around southeast Michigan.

A grand opening celebration will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday and will offer customers the opportunity to win raffle prizes.

The Livonia resale store, 12651 Middle Belt Rd., is the fifth in metro Detroit in four years, including the flagship store that opened in Canton in 2010 followed by Dearborn, Commerce Township, and Woodhaven locations.
