Wayne State University’s Make Your Date Detroit program has built a supportive network dedicated to helping ensure healthy babies and healthy mothers. With the goal of preventing preterm births, Make Your Date Detroit has put together a comprehensive list of resources and advice for expecting mothers, as well as programs to make the process easier. Among their programs is a partnership with SisterFriends Detroit that provides every dual-enrolled mother with a SisterFriend peer to help them through the pregnancy. Normally operating pregnancy education classes based primarily on preterm birth prevention, the program has since suspended classes indefinitely in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the program has put together a COVID-19 response team that is still able to assist mothers in the pregnancy process. Expecting mothers simply complete an e-signup form and are then contacted by a member of the team to see what kind of assistance she needs. Soon after, the mother will receive a text or email of resources as well as regular follow-ups from the program to make sure things are going well.
