Kevin’s Song works to prevent suicide and raise suicide awareness in metro Detroit while also erasing the stigma associated with mental illness. The organization endeavors to educate, heal, and give hope. Through a partnership with Detroit Public Television, it created and released a 30-minute documentary in hopes of spreading awareness and exploring the often-misunderstood mental fight associated with suicide. The organization has created support groups such as the Suicide Attempt Survivors Group, which focuses on peer support and mental health education with the help of fellow survivors and trained crisis counselors. The organization’s Survivors of Suicide Loss Support groups offer hope and healing for those who have lost someone to suicide. The organization provides resources for those struggling with suicidal thoughts and outlets for them to confide in when they are at their lowest. Focused heavily on youth suicide, they have also put together panels for parents and teens to attend to become more educated and aware of suicide, its effects, and how to combat it.
