Detroit-based StockX has launched Mystery Boxes, a new way for customers to experience the online sneaker and apparel platform.
StockX Mystery Boxes feature clear price tiers and odds shown upfront, with a guarantee that every item meets or exceeds the purchase price before processing fees. Most important, according to StockX, prices are based on actual sales data on StockX, reflecting real-time demand and resale value.
All Mystery Box products are sourced directly from StockX’s pre-verified inventory, so they are ready to ship within one business day.
“Our platform was built on the idea that more information creates more trust, and StockX Mystery Boxes are no different,” says Greg Schwarts, CEO of StockX. “As we designed the product, we didn’t want to prioritize excitement at the cost of clarity. We know that when customers trust the value, they get more from the experience, so we’re giving them surprise-based commerce without the typical tradeoffs found in the category.”
StockX Mystery Boxes span several product categories, including sneakers, apparel, accessories, and collectibles, offering customers access to a wide range of items.

Review odds and value tiers: See every price range and the probability of pulling each tier before you buy.
Check out: Complete the purchase to unlock the product.
Reveal the item: See the item and its market value instantly.
Decide what’s next: Ship it to your door or sell it back instantly for StockX credit, at 80–90 percent of the product’s current market value on StockX. If no selection is made, the item will be shipped to the address on file, and shipping fees and taxes will be applied.
Spending flexibility sets StockX Mystery Boxes apart from the rest of the category, the company states. If customers choose to sell back their Mystery Box for StockX credit, they can spend that credit across the entire StockX marketplace — on any product, not just Mystery Boxes.
StockX Mystery Boxes are available on StockX.com and the StockX iOS app for customers in the United States. The company plans to make the new offering available on additional platforms and in markets beyond the U.S. in the coming months.
