An investment group has acquired Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, northeast of Traverse City in Michigan’s northern lower peninsula, from Trinidad Resort & Club. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The new owners —Shanty Creek Ski and Golf Resort — says it plans to keep the current management team in place to ensure continuity in daily operations and preserve the resort’s history and offerings. Guests may see, however, “thoughtful” enhancements in the future designed to elevate the overall experience.

A staple in the community, Shanty Creek Resort is a family-friendly, affordable year-round destination to “recharge and reconnect.” The new owners say those traditions will remain firmly in place.

“We are grateful for the 20 plus years of stewardship provided by Trinidad Resort & Club LLC,” says Andrew Reh, COO and general manager of Shanty Creek Resort. “Their dedication and commitment helped reestablish the resort as a respected destination within the Michigan and Midwest resort industry.”

The new ownership group reportedly brings a wide range of experience in development, food service, entertainment, and property management, as well as resort and ski operations. With longstanding ties to northern Michigan, it also says it has an appreciation of the role the resort plays in the overall Antrim County economy.

“The new owners are a Michigan-based investment group who are looking forward to working with staff, guests, and the community to further enhance the beauty and the 60-year traditions of Shanty Creek,” says Harper Sibley, executive vice president of the new venture. “A strategic plan includes hotel updates, a new website, and growing the resorts family-friendly activities, to name just a few of the improvements being planned.”

Shanty Creek Resort is located in Bellaire, 31 miles northeast of Traverse City. The four-season destination resort and conference center spans more than 5,500 acres.

Each of the four distinct villages within the resort — Summit, Schuss, Cedar River, and Hawk’s Eye — offers its own personality and variety of lodging, dining, golf, and outdoor recreation, according to the company.
