Wayne State University to Honor Howard Hertz, Four Other Arts and Communication Alumni and Advocates

Detroit-based Wayne State University’s College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts, (CFPCA) will hold its 39th Annual Arts Achievement Awards on April 5, honoring alumni. Five honorees, including Howard Hertz, will be awarded this year for their dedication to and advocacy for the arts and communication, and achievements in their fields.

Hertz, who will be receiving the CFPCA Arts Advocacy Award, is the lead attorney for Hertz Schram’s Entertainment Practice Group and specializes in entertainment law. Since 1976, Hertz has represented both artists and entities in the entertainment field. These include authors, screenwriters, recording artists, radio personalities, producers, songwriters, athletes, and more.

Well-known clients of Hertz include Eminem, Jack White, George Clinton, Sippie Wallace, Marilyn Manson, The Romantics, The Bass Brothers, The GO, Mike Posner, Original 1265 Recordings, the Marshall Mathers Foundation, Warner Tamerlane, and Atlantic Records. 

Additionally, Hertz makes the annual trip to MIDEM, the International Music Festival in Cannes, France, on behalf of his clients. He is a member of the board of directors and president of the Detroit Music Awards Foundation, MusiCares' Program and Services Committee, and board of directors of the Sphinx Organization. Hertz received the John Hensel Award in 2004 for significant contributions to the arts community and has been recognized by "Best Lawyers in America," "Super Lawyers," and DBusiness Magazine’s “Top Lawyers.”

Other honorees include Sarah Ryley, Michael Luchs, Michael Krajewski, and David Calhoun.

The 2018 Arts Achievement Awards will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, in Wayne State’s Student Center Ballroom, located at 5221 Gullen Mall in Detroit.

The event is free and open to the public. RSVP by March 30.

Ross Mortgage Corp., a full-service residential mortgage lender headquartered in Troy, announced the appointment of Theresa Sprague as vice president of branch growth and retention. The firm has also added Jason Sprague and his team of loan officers, Jon DeKoninck, Denise Huettner, and Tim Donner.
