Pope Francis Center (PFC) in Detroit named William (Billy) Kangas as its executive director. Fr. Tim McCabe was the executive director of PFC until August, when the board elected him president and CEO.
PFC launched a search at that time for a new executive director. Kangas will oversee daily operations of both day shelter on St Antoine Street in Detroit, and the Bridge Housing Campus, which is scheduled to open next spring. Kangas was most recently chief operating officer of Hope Clinic in Ypsilanti.
“Dr. Kangas brings a wealth of experience and expertise as an academic, fundraiser and executive with previous roles at prestigious organizations including Hope Clinic, Cultivate Community, and Bread for the World,” says McCabe. His career has been marked by a deep commitment to our cause and a proven track record of leading change in the non-profit sector.”
Kangas has experience in academia, fundraising, and executive leadership. Kangas is credited with several achievements, including serving as the chief operating officer at the Hope Clinic during a period of growth. He oversaw the doubling of the organization’s presence in southeast Michigan, meeting around 100,000 requests for help in the past year, and leading a staff of 50 and over 1,400 volunteers.
Kangas has been married for 14 years to his wife, with whom he is raising five sons
