United Way for Southeastern Michigan Names CFO

United Way for Southeastern Michigan in Detroit today announced the appointment of Steven Schwartz as CFO effective Jan. 7, 2019.

In his new position, Schwartz will be responsible for United Way’s overall financial integrity and operational leadership over all aspects of accounting, contracts, business management, and financial planning. He replaces Gloria Larkins, who retired in October.

Schwartz has more than 20 years of experience in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. Prior to joining United Way, Schwartz served as CFO of HighScope Educational Research Foundation in Ypsilanti, CFO for Michigan Credit Union in Livonia, and vice president of finance and controller at Detroit Regional Chamber in Detroit. Throughout his journey, he implemented process improvement policies as well as cost savings and revenue growth strategies.

Schwartz earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from Eastern Michigan University.
