The United Community Family Services–Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (UCFS-CALC) in Troy has appointed Melanie Duquesnel as its new president and CEO.

Duquesnel brings leadership experience and a passion for community empowerment to her new role. She previously served as president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau Serving Eastern Michigan, where she led a team in advancing marketplace trust, business ethics, and consumer protection.

Under her leadership, the BBB strengthened opportunities for accredited businesses while serving as a neutral third party in dispute resolution, fostering accountability and trust across the region.

Her career also includes two decades in banking, where she worked closely with businesses of all sizes to identify solutions tailored to their unique needs. This experience taught her that while client expectations may differ, each relationship requires equal dedication and attention.

“I am deeply passionate about creating opportunities for all communities,” says Duquesnel. “My mission is to break down barriers, discover new pathways, and ensure meaningful success for the individuals and families we serve. I look forward to building on UCFS-CALC’s legacy of hope and dignity while expanding programs that empower people to thrive.”

Renee Brikho, chairwoman of the UCFS-CALC Board of Directors, says, “We are thrilled to welcome Melanie as our new President and CEO. Her proven leadership, dedication to ethical standards, and commitment to community success make her the ideal person to guide UCFS-CALC into its next chapter.

“We are confident that under her leadership, our organization will continue to grow and strengthen its impact across southeast Michigan.”

Founded in 1961 by 20 refugee and immigrant women, the Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (CALC) began with a mission to help families rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. Over the decades, CALC has grown from an all-volunteer agency into an organization providing wrap-around services through dedicated staff, board members, and volunteers.

In 2016, the organization expanded its name to United Community Family Services (UCFS) to reflect its broader mission of supporting families and communities across southeast Michigan.

Today, UCFS-CALC operates from its own facility, home to administrative offices, training space, and The Sharehouse, a large Basic Needs Center and Food Pantry.
