Motor Information Systems in Troy has announced the appointment of Joe Ross as senior vice president, product.

Ross brings more than three decades of experience developing products, building teams, and growing recurring revenue across startups, Fortune 500 enterprises, and private equity-backed companies. A two-time founding chief product officer, his expertise spans software as a service, data as a service, AI product development, and acquisitions and integration.

His appointment comes as Motor advances its AI-enabled data development initiatives to expand coverage, improve data quality, and help customers address evolving automotive information needs.

“Joe understands how to turn complex data and technology into products that deliver meaningful business value,” says Jeff Nosek, president of Motor Information Systems. “His experience building product organizations and growing data businesses will help us connect Motor’s investments in innovation to the needs of our customers.”

Most recently, Ross served as chief product officer at BS&A Software, a provider of enterprise software for local governments. He built the product function from the ground up, doubled revenue, and scaled a property-tax and assessing data business into a multimillion-dollar recurring revenue stream. He also established the company’s first AI product strategy and a playbook for incorporating AI into the development process.

Previously, Ross served as vice president of product and then chief product officer at WorkForce Software. During his tenure from 2016 to 2023, annual recurring revenue grew from approximately $68 million to $150 million. He built a global product and user experience organization and contributed to the company’s eventual $1.2 billion acquisition by ADP.

“Motor combines deep automotive expertise with data that businesses across the industry rely on every day,” says Ross. “I’m excited to build on that foundation, work closely with our customers, and help bring new capabilities to market that solve practical problems and support their growth.”
