Housewares Store Finds Permanent Home in Midtown

DETROIT —  Hugh, a housewares and personal accessories store, will open Friday in Midtown’s new Auburn building. Joe Posch, who opened Hugh as a pop-up store concept for the last two winters, was the first winner of Hatch Detroit, a crowd sourced, retail-funding competition.

“Hugh was the first pop-up store in the Detroit area and gave me the opportunity to test the concept in this market,” said Posch. “The store was very successful and the experience, combined with the Hatch Detroit win, allowed me to refine the concept and deliver a new store.

“I am very excited about Hugh’s permanent location. It will be a nice complement to the great selection of boutiques and retailers in the ‘North Cass design district’ of Midtown,” said Posch.

Posch describes Hugh as a masculine-focused home, decorative and personal accessories store. Hugh will open initially with a product line that is curated for holiday gift buying and entertaining with items such as new and vintage cocktail accessories, barware, personal accessories, and stationery items.

After the holidays, Hugh will begin to introduce permanent home décor, lighting and furniture merchandise. Hugh will feature manufacturers of classic designs such as Stelton, Alessi, iittala, Modernica, and Akari as well as newer designs by companies such as Gus Modern.

Hugh is located at the Auburn, 4240 Cass Avenue, Suite 107. For more information, call 313-831-4844, visit lovehughlongtime.com or e-mail hugh@thankhugh.com.
