David R. McGhee will depart the Skillman Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Detroit, to join the Schultz Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Seattle as chief strategy and program officer.

Since 2019, McGhee has served as vice president of organizational excellence and impact at the Skillman Foundation, working directly with the president and CEO and the board of trustees to enhance equitable educational and economic opportunities for children.

McGhee also served as a program director at the foundation, responsible for its equity and economic well-being impact, designing and delivering programmatic and grantmaking strategies for an annual grantmaking budget of $17 million.

“I’m honored to join the Schultz Family Foundation, who holds a mission of creating greater opportunity, accessible to all, while being nimble enough to respond during critical times as such in our country with action,” says McGhee.

“I will work to build on the momentum of the organization’s current strategic direction, providing forward-thinking leadership, cultivating and creating pathways of opportunity for populations facing barriers to success, including youth and young adults, and those working diligently to advance democracy.”

A newly created role, the chief strategy and program officer will serve as a key member to the executive team, collaborating both internally and externally to drive pioneering strategies and programs that honors and advances the Schultz Family Foundation’s mission to create greater opportunity, accessible to all.

McGhee notes this transition as something that felt “just right” as he brings nearly 20 years of experience in the nonprofit, government, and philanthropic sectors.

“I’ve learned and gained so much from the Skillman Foundation and am looking forward to serving in the next chapter of my professional journey,” says McGhee.
