Burris Law Welcomes Members to Team of Patent Attorneys

Burris Law, based in Detroit, announced the addition of Lou Houston, David Spears, and Julie Zamler to its team of patent attorneys.

“We are excited that Lou, David, and Julie are joining our attorney team,” says Kelly K. Burris, owner and founder of Burris Law. “They are young, talented attorneys that bring diverse legal and technical experience that will deepen our bench and help us to provide new dimensions of service to our client teams across the spectrum of their patent needs.”

Houston concentrates her practice in patent applications, patent clearance searches, and opinions. She has a background in electrical engineering and previously practiced at multiple national intellectual property law firms in the United States. She has also worked as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, focusing on technologies such as multiplexing network communication systems, including wired and wireless networks, data packaging, routers, switchers, applications, and related databases. Houston received her juris doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and her Bachelor of Science from Prairie View A and M University.

Spears prepares and prosecutes patents for clients across a range of industries including automotive, consumer products, and medical devices. He has a background in mechanical engineering which includes his work during college with a large automaker and a major energy supplier. He was previously an associate at a national IP boutique in metro Detroit. Spears received his juris doctor degree from Michigan State University College of Law and Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University.

Zamler, formerly a paralegal at the firm, focuses on patent preparation and prosecution. She has previous industry experience working for a contract research organization in the biopharmaceutical field. Zamler received her juris doctor degree and Master of Laws from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School and her Bachelor of Arts from Kalamazoo College.
