Beyond Basics Names New Board Members

Beyond Basics, which provides literacy support programs to schools in Detroit and Pontiac, has appointed Emily Ford and Mohammad Qazi to its board of directors.

Ford, a California native, was formerly a kindergarten and fourth-grade teacher at St. Paul the Apostle School in West Los Angeles.  Ford graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s in Arts in English and has a Master’s in Education from Loyola Marymount University.

 

Qazi is the founder and president of Ciena Healthcare, based in Southfield. Qazi tserves on the board of the U.S. Pakistan Business Council. He is an active member of the community at home and abroad, particularly in Pakistan. He supports numerous community organizations and serves in multiple boards in the health care field.

He also chairs the Qazi Foundation, which funds the advancement of healthcare, education and self-employment in the U.S. and Pakistan.
