The inventor of the Leafinator Ergonomic Rake, Barbara Lyons, founded her company in 2020 and works out of the Centrepolis Accelerator at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield.
Leafinator is an eco-friendly, lightweight new way to grab, gather, and move fallen leaves that won’t leave the user feeling sore, according to Lyons, a native of Redford Township.
“It’s a product that eliminates bending and stopping,” says Lyons. “It’s an ergonomic device with three functions in one tool. It’s also inclusive for those with mobility challenges.
“I know there are a lot of options out there — leaf blowers and lawn mowers,” she says. “But this is a simple, eco-friendly, and easy-to-use tool. There are not a lot of those on the market.”
While there’s still development work to do, Lyons says she’s trying to secure funding to help increase awareness connected to her brand.
“I would like to raise capital to cover manufacturing costs for injection molding, suggested design iterations for manufacturability, marketing, and advertising to support brand awareness efforts,” she says.
Other needs include low volume production ranging from 100 to 500 units to support revenue efforts, CAD files and an updated prototype for validation efforts, tradeshows and events, legal expenses, accounting services, updated website, and e-commerce automation.
