Kuhl Beans Roasting Co. was founded in 2024 by Drew and Karina Kuhlman, and within a few months, the couple acquired the Numa Coffee Co. coffee shop in Clinton Township from Dan Mayer. The business will continue operating under the Numa brand.
The acquisition was supported by a $5,000 small business support hubs grant and purchase agreement assistance provided by the Sterling Heights-based Velocity Entrepreneur in Residence and small business accelerator programs.
“I’m incredibly grateful to my teammates and mentors at Velocity,” says Drew Kuhlman, owner of Kuhl Beans Roasting Co. and Numa Coffee Co. “My passion for coffee began at a young age, and while I never imagined owning a coffee business, I’m thankful that Velocity’s support has helped me turn that passion into a thriving dream business.”
Looking ahead, Kuhlman has big plans for the Numa Coffee Co. brand. In addition to the new Clinton Township location, he and his wife, Karina, are planning to introduce a new mobile coffee unit that will bring their fire-roasted coffee to local farmers’ markets and special events, including corporate and family celebrations.
At their new shop, Kuhlman and Karina plan to introduce a variety of new products, including chocolates and seaweed-based goods. The location also will host unique events such as yoga meet-ups, chair massage, roasting lessons, and coffee tastings.
