Itselectric – Newlab, founded in 2021 by Tiya Gordon and Nathan King, says it’s striving to revolutionize the electric vehicle charging landscape with its technology designed to make charging stations accessible and affordable for communities.

The company’s Level 2 charging posts connect behind an electric meter to tap into spare electrical supply from nearby buildings, eliminating the need for complex utility permitting and coordination.

The model allows itselectric to install public EV chargers at no cost to building owners or municipalities, while also sharing the revenue earned from the chargers with property owners. The goal is to reduce carbon emissions, promote cleaner transportation, and support the state of Michigan in its decarbonization goals.

Itselectric’s work in Detroit has been supported by funding from DTE Energy’s Emerging Tech Fund and the Michigan Office of Future Mobility and Electrification through the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform.

Having started in the Detroit Smart Parking Lab (a collaboration between Bedrock, Bosch, Ford, and the MEDC), itselectric was the first graduate of the testing ground to go live on the streets of Detroit.
