Bedestrain was founded by Shadi T. Mere in Ann Arbor in 2017 to study last mile delivery applications for autonomous electric vehicles. It has evolved to become a robot-as-a-service platform using smart voice interaction.
“Bedestrian provides a safe, intelligent,and durable delivery solution connecting indoor and optional outdoor spaces across facilities,” says Mere. “Our solution requires minimal infrastructure changes and is designed for frictionless deployment and operation.”
Early prototypes and concepts were tested at Michigan State University and at the University of Michigan. In 2019 Beaumont Hospital (now Corewell Health) piloted a Bedestrian robot to deliver biologics between the pharmacy lab and the cancer center.
The company was awarded two patents in 2020, one for an autonomous vehicle with a trailer and another for autonomous charging of a motor vehicle. In 2022, Bedestrian won $50,000 in the Ann Arbor SPARK Invest360 pitch competition.
In addition to its Ann Arbor headquarters, Bedestrian has a lab in Plymouth Township.
The newest version of its delivery robot is expected to be launched this year.
