The Purple Rose Theatre Co. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1991 by actor and Chelsea native Jeff Daniels that actively promotes the development of new American theatre and its practitioners, and provides educational opportunities. Audiences travel from all over the state and elsewhere to watch the live shows at its facility in the city’s historic downtown. The educational programs include an apprenticeship program for college graduates and a program for script development aimed at helping playwrights grow their story and script.
