The Michigan Firehouse Museum and Education Center (110 W. Cross St.), in Ypsilanti’s historic Depot Town, was founded in 1989 with the mission to enhance the appreciation of firefighting history through engaging and informative exhibits, as well as to teach and promote fire safety. Encompassing more than 26,000 square feet of space, the museum is a restored 1898 firehouse with a modern, multilevel exhibit display area. Exhibits include antique fire trucks and early fire rigs, multiple displays of historic artifacts including tools, equipment, memorabilia, and what is believed to be the largest collection of fire truck bells in the country.
