Dog Aide was founded in 2012 in Birmingham to assist Detroit dog owners who are experiencing financial hardship and struggle to care for their pets. The organization has a community outreach program to help with pet owner retention and shelter intervention with the goal of keeping pets with their people. Dog Aide provides families with dog food and daily care items so they can continue to care for their dogs during periods of hardship. Each month, Dog Aide delivers more than 10,000 pounds of dog food directly to the doors of those in need. In addition, last year, Dog Aide helped 541 animals get spayed or neutered, 1,355 vaccinated, 1,107 microchipped, and built 28 kennels.
