Located in Detroit, Cass Community Social Services is a nonprofit organization that works across the city in areas of concentrated poverty, providing programs for food, health, housing, and jobs. The organization prepares and serves 700,000 meals annually; has space for 300 homeless men, women, and children to stay in one of the shelter or permanent supportive housing programs; operates two weekly free medical clinics as well as a day program for 125 adults with developmental disabilities; and employ 80 adults in the agency’s Green Industries, which engages the organization in helping to clean the city and encourage recycling. Since 2002, the organization has added health services and, among other programs, most recently the Cass House, a residential program for homeless men with HIV/AIDS. Cass Community Social Services has an annual operating budget of $5 million.
