Athletes Unlimited is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing athletic, recreational, and social outlets to people with disabilities. The organization was first founded in 1996 by Jeff Pierce with the purpose of providing an outlet where athletes with disabilities can participate in sports competitively. Athletes Unlimited also believes that individuals with disabilities possess the same basic needs and desires as those without disabilities and should have access to as many athletic opportunities as possible. In order to raise money for their athletes, Athletes Unlimited hosts an annual golf outing with both competitive and recreational golf opportunities. This allows for people, regardless of age, gender, or ability, to have a good time, meet new people, and support the organization. In response to COVID-19, the 23rd annual golf outing still took place on Aug. 10 of this year. To comply with Michigan’s executive orders, the outing included 50 percent capacity and required face masks.
