Joey Namou, a co-founder of Woodward Sports, has acquired a majority stake in the company in a seven-figure transaction and has been named CEO. The company also has moved to Royal Oak.
Woodward Sports is a digital media platform, formerly based in Detroit, that delivers sports news, analysis, and commentary.
Since its launch in 2020, Woodward Sports has grown into what it calls “a premier destination for sports content,” reaching more than 700,000 followers and generating millions of monthly views across its video, social, and podcast platforms.
“From day one, our goal was to build a platform that truly represents Detroit sports fans,” says Namou. “The support we’ve received from this city over the past five years has been incredible. As we move forward, we’re focused on growing Woodward Sports into something even bigger, not just in sports, but in culture, community, and storytelling.”
Namou, known as “Joey Radio,” brings nearly 15 years of experience in Detroit media. A graduate of Brother Rice High School and alumnus of Oakland University, he originally pursued a career in accounting before earning an internship with iHeartRadio’s “Mojo in the Morning.” That opportunity helped launch his career in media, marketing, and entrepreneurship, ultimately leading to the founding of Woodward Sports.
Woodward Sports’ new headquarters is an expanded, 3,500-square-foot studio in downtown Royal Oak, located at 108 S. Main Street. The facility is designed to support increased live programming, content production, and brand partnerships.
All programming broadcasts live from the Planet Fitness Studio, with Planet Fitness serving as the presenting sponsor.
Woodward Sports currently produces four daily live shows, delivering more than eight hours of live, local programming each day. The company plans to further expand its lineup with new shows, additional Detroit personalities, and content that extends beyond sports into broader cultural and community storytelling.
Sam “Stick” Day, a founding partner in Woodward Sports, will continue working alongside Namou as part of the leadership team, contributing to programming, content development, and overall network growth.
“Woodward Sports has always been about the fans,” says Darren McCarty, a Woodward Sports personality and four-time Stanley Cup champion with the Detroit Red Wings. “It’s for the people. With Joey and Stick leading this next phase, the vision is only getting bigger, and it’s exactly what this city deserves.”
