Used Luxury Car Dealership Plans New Birmingham Showroom

Troy-based Platinum Motorcars, an independent used car dealership specializing in luxury European cars, plans to expand by adding a boutique showroom in Birmingham’s Triangle District early next year.

“There’s really nowhere to go for high-end used cars in the city of Birmingham,” says Syed Ahmed, partner at Platinum Motorcars. “(My family and I) live in (Birmingham), we’re in walking distance from the (planned) showroom, and we just feel there’s a market for it and it’s something clients like.”

The new showroom, 1098 S. Adams Rd. (at Webster), will feature up to 10 to 12 exotic cars at a time, including brands such as Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Ferrari, Land Rover, and Porsche. Platinum Motorcars will also hold a large inventory of additional luxury vehicles at a nearby warehouse.

Previously home to Parks Tailoring, a bespoke menswear shop and tailoring service, renovations to the space will include a large display window, high ceilings, a glazed concrete floor, enhanced lighting, added landscaping, and new exterior paint and signage.

Requesting a special land use permit for the showroom, the dealership is scheduled to appear before the Birmingham City Commission on Oct. 12 to further discuss the permit, and if approved, a public hearing will be held.

“We’re mostly looking forward to the exposure,” Ahmed says. “We already do a lot of business in Birmingham and Bloomfield, and once people begin to know we’re there, just by literally driving by and seeing it, it’ll really help our business, and we’ll be able to be involved more in the community.”
