The Platform, a Detroit-based real estate development firm, has announced that six new retailers have opened or soon will open their doors at its properties in Detroit’s Midtown and New Center neighborhoods.

New retailers include a restaurant, bridal salon, a waxing studio, and a gelateria at Woodward West. A new fitness studio will open at The Ellington, while a new hair salon recently opened in the historic Fisher Building.

“We are very excited to introduce this diverse range of businesses to the Detroit community,” says Clarke Lewis, president of the Platform. “The quality and variety of these businesses will not only serve our residents, but people from all over the city. We are adding to the vibrancy of the neighborhoods, while adding some needed services to this growing section of Detroit.”

The Eagle Food and Beer Hall opened in Midtown today. The restaurant serves fried chicken and southern sides, cocktails, and local craft beers. The 4,750-square-foot restaurant located at the corner of Woodward and Stimson Street is the Eagle’s first restaurant in Michigan. It is one of eight concepts by Cincinnati-based Thunderdome Restaurant Group, which operates more than 40 locations nationwide, including Bakersfield near Woodward.

“We’re excited to bring The Eagle to Detroit,” says Joe Lanni, co-founder of Thunderdome Restaurant Group. “We felt so much love from the city after opening Bakersfield, and we always knew we wanted to bring a second concept to the area.”

Sugaring NYC opened in August at Woodward West apartments at 3439 Woodward Ave. It is an organic waxing and lash studio providing all-natural removal services. With more than 70 locations nationally, Sugaring NYC has quickly become a preferred salon for non-surgical hair removal, according to the developers. The Woodward West location also offers other beauty services including brows and lashes.

“We wanted to be part of the revitalization happening in Detroit. We are excited to be here, and to be able to offer these services in the Midtown community,” says Tracey Bryant, owner of Sugaring NYC.

Luxe Redux Bridal will open its Woodward West location later in September. It offers a variety of styles and a size inclusive selection of luxury designer bridal gowns that are 20 to 90 percent off regular retail prices. The business model is meant to brides can samples off the rack in-store, at home and online.

“I feel fortunate to expand our brand in a city near my hometown,” says Lindsay Fork, founder and CEO Luxe Redux. “I can feel the energy, the resurgence, the presence of art, growth and promise in Detroit. Luxe Redux is excited to have this city and its people as a new home.”

Popbar, a traditional Italian shop that sells gelato will open in 2024. Popbar specializes in all-natural, handcrafted gelato on a stick that is able to be customized.

“I couldn’t be more excited to return to my hometown and open Popbar’s first Michigan location in Detroit,” says Joseph McCain, owner of Popbar. “Our product will complement Woodward West — and Midtown’s — excellent line up of retailers.”

“Woodward Avenue near Mack/MLK is an important corridor serving a growing residential population in Midtown and downtown,” says Myles Hamby, senior development manager at The Platform. “We are excited to announce the addition of these restaurants, retail and essential services at Wooward West and look forward to announcing more in the near future.”
