Fashion house Moncler, which has a store in Troy’s Somerset Collection, teamed up with Adidas to launch a new fashion line inspired by “the journey from mountainous peaks to the city below.”
The new collection was created to combine Moncler’s brand history of integrating style — assisted by experts in mountain activities — with Adidias’ sports brands of global athletic footwear and apparel called adidas Originals.
This collaboration between Adidias and Moncler has taken inspiration from artists in a variety of different fields. They include Gary Card, a British sculptor and set designer; Ibby Njoya, a British-Cameroonian artist and set designer; Kate Tabor, a British designer and maker; Isamay Ffrench, a make-up artist; Ai Kamoshita, a London-based stylist; Hanna Moon, a South Korean-born photographer based in London; and Shiori Takahashi, a hair stylist from Japan.
The result is The Art of Explorers fashion line, which features puffers, both long and short, as well as track jackets and vests that “epitomize the intersection” of these two brand identities.
Signature Moncler styles have been shaped in lacquered nylon and reimagined through adidas Originals details, including “adi-break” paneling. The line has a mix of colors that “recall traffic lights in greens, oranges, and reds, before oscillating between concrete-gray and sky blue, via off-white and organic dark greens. Sinuous quilting, jacquards and prints take inspiration from patterns created by skiers on snow-covered slopes.”
The collection also includes footwear that grounds the looks and has been “Moncler-ized and given a winter makeover in Gore-Tex, puffed up by bubble padding. The iconic Campus has also been cocooned in bubble padding for an augmented Moncler feel. Form and function meet at the intersection of outdoor mountain life and city streets: a new meeting of worlds, made for exploring.”
