South Bend, Indiana-based global mobility solutions provider AM General today announced it has moved into a new Technology and Engineering Center in Auburn Hills. The facility houses engineering, product planning, and prototyping departments along with business development, U.S. defense, and strategic marketing functions.
“AM General recognizes the importance of proximity not only to the vast number of automotive OEMs, suppliers, and research centers, but also to the strong military presence in Michigan,” says Andy Hove, AM General’s president and CEO. “Additionally, the extraordinary talent base in the area was a key factor to selecting Auburn Hills as our home and we look forward to expanding our experienced workforce as we continue to grow our business.”
The Technology and Engineering Center met AM General’s criteria for being in close proximity to automotive OEMs as well as serving as a defense contractor for the U.S. government. The building and adjoining workspaces provide room and security for designing and prototyping of new product offerings, while a AC Wave 2 system is designed for speed and high density environments.
The company also added a new unified messaging platform using Microsoft’s Skype-for-Business suite to provide wireless phone, messaging, and video conferencing abilities, giving AM General associates total mobile capabilities, even when working remotely.
In addition, the center serves as a collaboration center for customers and community members. AM General will host the next CODEL Staffers Breakfast on Jan. 19 (by invitation only), sponsored by the Michigan Chapters of the National Defense Industrial Association, Women in Defense, and the Association of the U. S. Army. The event brings together industry leaders and policy makers to discuss events and legislation effecting the industry.
AM General operates major facilities in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio and has produced more than 250,000 vehicles in more than 60 countries.
