The former St. Charles School will undergo a historic renovation into the St. Charles Residencies in Detroit’s West Village, and offer 25 luxury condominiums in the first phase of construction, with work beginning in May.
When completed next year, each unit will feature an urban style of luxury design including high ceilings, large windows, master suites, open concept layout, and secure outdoor spaces. Common spaces between the units will also provide an extension of living spaces.
“The St. Charles Residence is not going to be the typical conversion of a historic building into lofts,” says Aamir Farooqi, chairman and CEO of Banyan Investments. “It will become a luxurious sanctuary within the City of Detroit.”
The ground breaking ceremony will take place on Monday, May 1 at 12:30 p.m., with a preview of architectural renderings and displays and a chance to meet the design and development team taking place at 11:30 a.m.
The developer is Detroit-based real estate investment firm Banyan Investments, and FX Architecture in Royal Oak is serving as the architect, along with Gensler, which had an office in downtown Detroit.
Investors for the renovation include: Invest Detroit, the Michigan Strategic Fund, and the City of Detroit. The broker is The Loft Warehouse in Detroit’s Eastern Market.
The St. Charles Residencies are located at 1454 Townsend, and units will range from 894 square feet to 1,640 square feet, with a price point of $275,000-$470,000. The units are expected to be completed in May 2018. A penthouse also will be offered, and the pricing will be released in the coming weeks.
