EW Grobbel, a local food company known for its corned beef and other meat products, today announced it has acquired a manufacturing facility in St. Clair Shores.

The transaction will allow the company — founded in Detroit in 1883 and located in Eastern Market — to expand its capacity to meet expected increased regional and national demand for its products.

Grobbel officials state the expansion solidifies the company’s commitment to growth and innovation in southeast Michigan. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition of the approximately 90,000-square-foot facility at 20643 Stephens St. in St. Clair Shores (near Little Mack Ave.) — in collaboration with Perdue Premium Meat Co. — allows Grobbel to revitalize manufacturing space to resume the production of food products while contributing as a regional employer at a site once operated by Alexander & Hornung.

Set to open on May 15, 2026, the project is expected to create 30 to 40 new jobs, according to Grobbel officials.

“This expansion epitomizes our team’s commitment to responsible and purposeful growth,” says Jason Grobbel, president of Grobbel. “It opens doors for us to explore new products and markets, ensuring that we evolve while upholding our 140-year commitment to quality and excellence.

“As we embark on this new chapter, we extend our gratitude to our entire team who have been instrumental in supporting us on this remarkable journey of expansion. This not only signifies progress, but also highlights our dedication to serving this community and enhancing the culinary landscape.”

This St. Clair Shores facility marks Grobbel’s second expansion in recent years. The company added manufacturing and distribution capabilities in Taylor in 2018.
