Dell For Startups National Competition Coming to StartupNation in Birmingham in September

Dell for Startups is hosting a free pitch competition on Sept. 28 at StartupNation in Birmingham for eight recently formed businesses in Michigan. More than $500,000 in prizes will be awarded as part of a national competition.

Dell for Startups is hosting a free pitch competition on Sept. 28 at StartupNation in Birmingham for eight recently formed businesses in Michigan. More than $500,000 in prizes will be awarded as part of a national competition.

The startups — selected by Dell Technologies and StartupNation — will take part in the pitch competition, with two winners eligible to advance to the next round of Dell’s national competition. All participants must be available to pitch in person on Sept. 28.

The first round of the pitch competition consists of a 3-minute pitch presentation with slides and Q&A. The first-place winner receives $15,000 in Dell products through Dell Advantage Rewards.

The second-place winner (crowd favorite) receives $10,000 in Dell products through Dell Advantage Rewards. Both advance to the next round of pitching for a chance to win another $40,000 in prizes.

The competition is part of a day of networking and learning, the Dell Technologies rally truck (displays may be set up indoors), and more.

The first 100 attendees will receive a Dell swag bag.

Tentative schedule on Sept. 28:

10 a.m. Meet and greet. Vendors, including Dell Financial Services and Targus, open. Coffee and bagels

11 a.m. Colin McMahon, StartupNation’s COO, makes introductions. The Dell rally truck, which gives entrepreneurs the chance to interact with the latest technology, opens.

11:15 a.m. Panel presentation on small business funding with Q&A hosted by DBusiness editor R.J. King

12:30 p.m. Break with refreshments

1-3 p.m. Pitch competition event moderated by StartupNation founder and CEO Jeff Sloan — first- and second-place winners will be announced.

3:30-5 p.m. Catered networking social event
