ShineWater, a Bay City-based ready-to-drink hydration beverage company, which offers 100 percent of the daily recommended vitamin D in a single bottle, has expanded from Michigan to be available in all 50 U.S. states through major retailers including 7 Eleven, Target, QT, Meijer, and Whole Foods, as well as online.

“ShineWater was created to address the global health and wellness problem of Vitamin D deficiency and reimaging what a hydration beverage should be, with zero compromises,” says Ryan Coon, chief marketing officer at ShineWater. “We create superior beverages that promote optimum health using the power of natural ingredients, zero sugar, and Vitamin D – the ultimate recipes for powerful hydration.”

The drink was developed by a Food and Drug Administration physician to combat the nationwide issue of vitamin D deficiency, which affects a large number of the U.S. teen and adult population. It also contains electrolytes, antioxidants, and minerals. The six flavors — strawberry lemon, mixed berry acai, peach mango, kiwi cucumber, coconut lime, and pomegranate grape — have no added sugar.

The company relocated from Charleston, S.C. to Bay City in early 2020, along with a redesign of its packaging. These changes yielded dramatic growth, seeing a tenfold sales increase last year in its limited availability, indicating the brand has potential to continue to grow.

Vitamin D is generated by the body when it is exposed to sunlight and is also found naturally in some foods including egg yolks and fortified cereals, which have been declining in popularity In American diets. ShineWater eliminates this issue with one bottle.

ShineWater will continue to partner with OneWorld Health to donate a portion of each bottle sold to help communities in developing countries to bring permanent, sustainable health care to underserved areas across East Africa and South America.
