Barrington Apartment Homes, a new $75-million luxury apartment community at the northwest corner of M-5 and Pontiac Trail in Commerce Township, was opened today by two metro Detroit developers, M. Shapiro Development Co. and MJC Cos.

Set in western Oakland County’s Lake District, the 299-unit development offers single-story apartment homes with two bedrooms, two baths, and an attached two-car garage as well as stacked ranch apartment homes offering two- and three-bedroom units, two baths, and an attached two-car garage. All of the units offer nine-foot-high ceilings.

The community is set within the emerging $285-million Commerce Towne Place, which includes luxury apartments, a senior center, a $100-million outdoor lifestyle center, or downtown district, by Birmingham-based Robert B. Aikens and Associates, offices, and recreational offerings. InSite Commercial in Commerce Township worked with the community to complete a master plan for the 330-acre site, previously occupied by two golf courses.

“Barrington is our response to the growing market of upscale singles, couples, and families who are seeking apartments with premium features and refined architecture found in luxury homes and condominiums,” says Michael A. Chirco, principal of MJC Cos. in Macomb Township.

The community “offers exceptionally spacious floor plans, each including two or three bedrooms, two baths, two-car attached garage, and personal outdoor space. Lofty nine-foot ceilings with full-height glass door walls create an amazing open feeling unlike any other apartments in the area.”

Barrington also offers planked wood-grain flooring, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, kitchen islands with snack bars, and in-residence washers and dryers.

Exterior amenities include an entry boulevard with a brick identity sign and landscaping, a community clubhouse that offers a fireside lounge, a gallery kitchen, a business center, a state-of-the-art fitness facility, and a yoga room.

There’s also a resort-class pool, a spa, a four-seasons lanai with a fireplace, a state-of-the-art dog wash, and an Amazon Hub station. Available apartment rents range from $2,445 to $2,995 per month. There are four floor plans: Ashbury, Buckingham, Chesterfield, and Windsor.

“Oakland County’s high-end market segment has been waiting for a product like this for some time,” says Mickey Shapiro, principal of M. Shapiro Development in Farmington Hills. “Apartment size and an absolute A+ grade location are of critical importance to our residents.

“However, size and location are only part of Barrington’s allure. We have elevated the design, innovation, and appointments beyond any other apartments in the region. In working with the finest architects, landscape designers, and interiors teams, we have lifted Barrington to the highest level both in quality and livability.”
