(July25, 2011; Warren, Mich.)– Lipari Foods announced today that the company has purchased Pic-A-Nut of Warren, Mich. The acquisition will bring world-class nut roasting and processing capabilities to Lipari’s vast offering of products. The move, coupled with the recent acquisition of Eastside Deli of Lansing, Michigan, will further expand Lipari’s direct store delivery (DSD) service and customer base.

Established in 1928, Pic-A-Nut was a result of James Champane, Sr.’s ingenuity during the Great Depression. When he could no longer find employment selling sundries, Champane opened his own confection shops in the Detroit area. He soon settled on his trademark—roasting nuts on-site for snacks so fresh and tasty, customers were waiting in line to buy them.

Champane successfully grew his family business into a nationwide distribution service with a strong focus on quality. Today—four generations later—Pic-A-Nut employs 35 people and has a 110,000-square-foot processing facility in Warren, Mich. The company’s focus on fresh-roasted high quality products and brands is a perfect fit within Lipari’s family of offerings.

“We are excited to join forces with our neighbors here in Warren. Lipari is now positioned to become a major player in the roasting and processing of all types of nuts—not to mention direct store delivery service,” says George Champane, President of Operations & Manufacturing for Pic-A-Nut.

Lipari Foods was founded in 1963 in Warren, Mich., the next step in the career of Jim Lipari, who began by delivering unique products from the back of his Buick station wagon. Today Lipari Foods distributes a wide range of quality bakery, deli, packaging, seafood, grocery, and confectionary products to nearly 5000 customers in more than 10 states.
