Gaurdie Banister Jr. has recently been elected to the board of directors for Midland’s Dow.
Banister will serve on both the environmental, health, safety, and technology, as well as the compensation and leadership development committees of Dow’s board. With a strong background in the engineering and energy sector, he will provide perspectives in strategic planning, risk management, and operational excellence.
“Throughout his 35 years of executive management and oversight responsibilities, Guardie has distinguished himself as an international business leader and a catalyst for value creation,” says Jim Fitterling, chairman and CEO of Dow. “We look forward to benefiting from his wealth of knowledge and expertise.”
Banister was formerly president and CEO of Aera Energy LLC, an oil and gas exploration and production company jointly owned by Shell Oil Co. and ExxonMobil. He also has extensive global business and leadership expertise, as well as public company board experience.
The appointment of Banister will also help strengthen the industry leadership and diversity of the board. The composition of Dow’s board ranks in the top quartile for ethnic diversity among both industry peers and its proxy peer group. It’s also comprised of a strong balance of new and experienced directors, with more than half joining in the last five years.
Dow operates 109 manufacturing sites in 31 countries.
