The Arc of Oakland County has been aiding and advocating for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities since its inception in 1967. The organization has created programs and plans while also advocating for additional services, laws, and equal participation for these individuals. The Arc provides families in its community with information and referrals regarding schools, physicians, dentists, and attorneys as needed. Adult home help services are also available through the organization, providing essential care and assistance for those who cannot perform daily tasks themselves. The Forever Plan, the organization’s staple program, provides families with the security that even when they can no longer care for their disabled family member, The Arc will have a plan in place so that they aren’t left behind. The flexible Individual Plan of Service is developed based on an individual’s specific needs and is put into place when family can no longer entirely look after a disabled individual.
