Detroit-based Teen HYPE (Helping Youth by Providing Education) offers programming designed to help young people reach their full potential. Each year, hundreds of high school students from dozens of area schools are provided with health screenings and programs that emphasize future-oriented thinking, effective communication, and avoiding risky behaviors and focus on teen pregnancy, HIV, and substance abuse prevention. More than 600 teens have also been trained as peer educators who are dedicated to community service, social justice, and risk avoidance. Each year the peer educators work with industry professionals to develop an original stage production focused on a social issue. The show reaches more than 3,000 students and adults in the community. Teen HYPE also offers field trips. Since 2004, the organization has helped more than 35,000 youth.
