Established in 1980 by the Michigan Allergy and Asthma Society, Camp Michi-Mac is a nonprofit organization that allows asthmatic children to attend summer camp. The camp allows youth with significant asthma or allergies to join a week-long camping trip that allows them to participate in camp activities under proper medical supervision. The supervision is provided by physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, and respiratory therapists. A 156-acre lot was offered as a gift from a widow. Today, that area is Skyline Camp and Retreat Center where Camp Michi-Mac is hosted near Almont, in the lower part of the thumb. Camp Michi-Mac applications are accepted for children between the ages of 7 and 15. This year’s summer dates were cancelled due to COVID-19, and new dates have not yet been determined. The organization is seeking donors for camper and staff supplies.
