Saucy Brew Works, a Cleveland-based brewpub and coffeehouse, will open its first Michigan location on March 3 in Detroit at Bedrock’s City Modern development in the historic Brush Park neighborhood.
Located north of Comerica Park and Ford Field at 2671 John R., the operation will be the first restaurant to open in City Modern’s mixed-use development. The 5,700-square-foot space will feature indoor and outdoor seating.
The menu features shareable appetizers including meatballs, roasted cauliflower, and Bavarian pretzels, as well as sandwiches, salads, and stone oven-baked wings. Thin crust pizza offerings include Nashville Hot Chicken, Fungus Amongus, and Veggie Supreme.
New to Saucy Brew Works’ menu is Saucy Coffee, a craft coffeehouse concept. It will offer single-origin house roast, pour overs, espresso, and a specialty menu inspired by Saucy beers such as What’s His Nuts, a vanilla stout with peanut butter and coffee, and Modern Crimes, a toasted coconut porter.
Beers will include classic German and American beers as well as experimental yeast and wild type beers. The brewery has three core cans — Habituale, a Kölsch style golden ale; Juicy Asap, an American India pale ale (IPA); and Love You, Bye, a Hazy Imperial IPA. Seasonal offerings will include a Christmas ale and German-style Oktoberfest, as well as stouts and fruit-flavored beers.
“We have been working with Bedrock for over a year to put together an inventive brewery in this great location,” says Brent Zimmerman, co-owner and operator of Saucy Brew Works. “We love Detroit and what is going on here as it has a similar vibe to our hometown in Cleveland. City Modern is a very exciting project bringing to life an iconic neighborhood, and we can’t wait to be a part of that.”
The restaurant’s other co-owner and operator is Eric Anderson. Detroit’s Sachse Construction served as the construction manager for the project.
The Detroit location is the fourth following the 2020 openings of Saucy Brew Works in Columbus, Ohio and Taproom and Coffeehouse in Orange, Ohio. The team also opened an outdoor beer garden, Vibe Garden, in Cleveland.
“Witnessing the vision for City Modern come to life in the historic Brush Park neighborhood is exciting,” says Ivy Greaner, COO of Bedrock. “Featuring a menu that offers something for everyone, Saucy Brew Works is the ideal food and beverage operator to serve the existing and rapidly growing residential population. Saucy Brew Works is committed to the communities they serve, and we are so pleased to welcome them to the neighborhood.”
Saucy Brew Works was founded in 2017 and will offer a 20 percent discount to City Modern residents. It will provide hand sanitizer, masks, 6-foot distancing, and floor markers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
