RH, formerly known as Restoration Hardware, has opened its first Design Gallery in Michigan, RH Detroit, The Gallery in downtown Birmingham at 300 S. Old Woodward Ave.

The company says the 60,000-square-foot RH Detroit represents the brand’s goal to revolutionize physical retailing, integrating artistic installations of RH Collections with rare art, antiques, and artifacts from around the globe.

“RH Detroit reflects our ongoing quest to elevate and expand the brand through immersive spaces that activate all of the senses and an experience that cannot be replicated online,” says Gary Friedman, chairman and CEO of RH. “We are honored to bring one of our most dramatic retail and hospitality destinations to the vibrant Birmingham community.”

The four-story building is a multi-level modern structure with fresh air, natural light, and a custom Italian brick facade. Visitors will pass through the 10-foot glass and bronze-finished doors into the Great Room with floor-to-ceiling columns and an installation of tiered, chandeliers. Along the periphery, a classical arrangement of rooms presents RH Interiors, showing designs inspired by history as well as RH Modern, a tribute to 20th-century modernism comprising pieces from industry icons.

RH Detroit also features the RH Rooftop Restaurant that has an exposition kitchen and wine bar — both clad in natural Taj Mahal stone — sparkling chandeliers, heritage olive trees, a trickling center fountain, and a curated menu of American and Mediterranean classics.

The restaurant opens onto a landscaped rooftop offering views of downtown Birmingham. The destination encompasses a series of intimate RH Outdoor lounge spaces featuring pleached London plane trees, shade canopies, sculptural evergreens, and French limestone fire tables.

The third level of the building is home to the RH Interior Design Studio, which has in its portfolio residential projects from Detroit to Dubai, San Francisco to Shanghai, Miami to Milan, Los Angeles to London, Pittsburgh to Paris, and Toronto to Tokyo. The interactive workspace includes private client presentation rooms with state-of- the-art technology and comprehensive design libraries showcasing the brand’s vast assortment of textiles, furniture and lighting finishes.

The development team included Boji Group as the developer, Sachse Construction as the general contractor, and NORR as the project architect.
